POLICE are on the hunt for the owner of a dog that attacked an elderly woman in Werribee over the weekend.
Police believe a man went to the supermarket at the intersection of Cherry and Watton streets around 7am last Saturday and “loosely” tied his dog to the trolley return bay near the entrance.
The man then went inside and bought some cigarettes.
A 72-year-old Werribee woman then walked towards the store when the dog attacked her.
“(The victim) put her hand up in front of her face to protect herself and the dog has bitten her right arm,” a police spokesperson said.
“The man then left the area without rendering any assistance to the victim.”
The woman was taken to The Alfred hospital to have her puncture wounds treated.
The man believed to be the owner of the dog, pictured above, was last seen at the corner of Silver St and Market Rd a short time after the attack heading north.
The dog is of medium size and is described as being a golden bull mastiff or similar.
The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 185cm tall, and was wearing tracksuit pants, a black long-sleeved T-shirt and white sneakers. He is of thin build with a goatee beard. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
