RESIDENTS of a Werribee street are fed up with seeing their formerly pristine park lose its appeal.
Yvonne Redmond used to be proud to tell people she lived in Shoalhaven St but she is now quickly growing tired of it.
According to Ms Redmond, for at least the last five years she has been asking the council to clean up the street’s small park to no avail.
“The grass gets out of control and there are lots of glass bottles left lying around,” Ms Redmond said. “When they finally do mow the grass they don’t pick up the bottles so we get broken glass everywhere.”
Just around the corner on Parramatta Rd is Wilson Reserve, which Ms Redmond said is unfairly maintained much more by the council.
“The differences in the two parks is really bad,” she said.
“I wouldn’t let any children play in our park because I go through there regularly and I see all the broken glass and everything else.”
Ms Redmond, who was recently told by a real estate agent that her street was “just a rental street now”, said it was also up to the council to ensure other residents maintained their properties.
“Surely the council can do something about the people who are renting and get them to mow their lawns,” she said.
“We bought this block of land 32 years ago because of the park. It’s definitely gotten worse over the last few years.”
Star contacted Wyndham Council for comment but they did not respond by deadline.
