ARTISTIC whiz Rhys Parkinson will have two of his works displayed this month in the CBD.
The 18-year-old former Sydenham Catholic Regional College student has work completed during his VCE on display at the Melbourne Museum Top Designs exhibition as well as the Top Arts Exhibition at Federation Square.
Having two pieces displayed is a rare achievement, with more than 8000 applications received but only 74 works chosen between the two exhibitions.
Rhys recently finished his VCE at Sydenham CRC with an ENTER score of 86.35 and is five weeks into his fine arts degree at the Victorian College of the Arts.
His top design piece, packaging for a gourmet chocolate company, was one of 12 that will be exhibited from more than 5000 entries.
The top arts piece being exhibited is inspired by the death of his grandmother in 2007 to lung cancer and comprises three portraits of friends and family.
It is based on emotions such as grief and sadness.
The grief portraits were chosen as one of 62 top art pieces from more than 3000 applications.
