Lost without bike

IJUST wanted to express my disappointment in the way that some people see locked bicycles as free for all to pilfer and loot.
I co-ordinate the Snapshots of Seddon, a community event organised out of my own pocket with lots of sweat. As a result of the success of this year’s exhibition my friends took me out to celebrate.
We went to the Commercial Hotel in Yarraville, but on returning I found that the seat from my 30-year-old bike had been stolen, making it fairly difficult ride home!
Since I am unable to drive, the bicycle is my sole form of transport, and this theft has significantly impeded my ability to travel and contribute to community events.
This is not the first time that various parts of my bicycle have been stolen.
Although I have come to almost expect theft when I lock my bicycle in the city, I would like to have more faith in my own community in Maribyrnong.
I will try not to let this event affect my contribution to the community, but I can’t help but be extremely frustrated and disappointed.
Larissa MacFarlane,
Seddon.
