Police crackdown

A SATURATION of Wyndham streets by police over the weekend nabbed 20 people for drunken and anti-social behaviour.
As part of Operation Unite, police visited pubs, clubs and bars throughout Victoria, including 46 in Wyndham.
The demonstration ran from Friday night to Saturday night and preliminary statistics showed that two people were arrested for drunken behaviour, there were four liquor licence offences and 14 drink drivers caught.
More than 120 people were arrested for a range of offences across Victoria. Deputy Commissioner Kieran Walshe said while the operation was dubbed a success by police, the results showed people still weren’t getting the message. “Tackling drunken violence and anti-social behaviour is not just something police can solve, a whole community change is needed,” Dep Comm Walshe said. “Mass operations such as Operation Unite are just one way police can continue to get the message out there that the ‘drink to get drunk’ culture is not acceptable.
