KARLENE Pircher’s recent performance at the Trans-Tasman series, where she broke the competition’s 200m breaststroke record twice, has been one of several highlights of the 15-year-old’s year.
The Hoppers Crossing girl’s ambition to represent Australia at the next Commonwealth Games seems more attainable every time she gets into the pool.
Pircher’s Melbourne Vicentre swimming coach Craig Jackson, a former Olympic swimmer, said her Trans-Tasman success and her 200m breaststroke title at the Australian Age Championships suggest the young swimmer’s goals are within reach.
“Karlene is currently on track to successfully compete at both the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics,” Jackson said.
“From here on out it is about ensuring she progresses at the right rate and develops the skills and discipline that is necessary to perform at the highest level.
“I am extremely happy with her performance at both the competitions. Karlene has been working hard in training and deserves the success she has achieved over the past few months.
“Karlene’s biggest strength as a swimmer is that she is a great racer. She loves to get in and compete. She puts all her heart into every race she competes in.”
