TWO Western Suburbs DJs are hoping to become the next big thing in the music industry as they have been selected to take part in a nationwide competition.
Amanda Webster from Werribee and Kara Aurisano from Braybrook make up a DJ duo that is vying for first place in the Your Shot 2012 competition.
More than 4500 hopefuls auditioned for the competition and 72 were selected from Melbourne Sydney and Brisbane.
Your Shot is seen as one of the most prestigious annual events for finding new DJ talent as it is open to anyone, regardless of how much experience they have.
Successful applicants are then given six weeks of training and after performing a live show the winner will be announced with the top prize including a performance spot at the Stereosonic festival and a trip to Greece to perform at a club there.
Ms Webster said her and Kara had decided to join forces for the competition after seeing how much they both enjoyed the same music.
“We’ve known each other for years and most of our conversations pertain to music,” Ms Webster said.
“She (Kara) is amazing. She knows her music so much. She can pick what song is playing after just hearing a few seconds of it.
“It just made sense for us to become a duo.”
Ms Webster said her ultimate goal would be to use her music to travel the world.
“I would love to tour around the world doing sets and meeting the DJs that have inspired me,” she said.
“This is definitely a good shot. It’s the best opportunity to make it big.”
The Melbourne round of finals will be held at the Royal Melbourne Hotel on 11 and 12 August.
