THEY’RE going to Bonnie Doon.
A group of selfless Wyndham residents will once again take up the challenge and walk 200 kilometres to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
This is the fourth year they have held the event, which has helped to raise $105,000 for the hospital’s Victorian Paediatric Palliative Care Program (VPPCP).
This year they will be walking around Mansfield, Bonnie Doon, Alexandra, Yea and back to Werribee.
They will follow the railway tracks and at night they will enter the nearby towns to rattle their tins in an effort to raise even more money.
Robert Fava from the Rotary Club of Werribee is the Chairperson of this year’s 200km Charity Walk.
Mr Fava said the Rotary Club of Werribee was the only group in Australia that raised money solely for the VPPCP.
“This year we have 17 walkers doing it. Everyone just puts the time aside when they know it’s coming up and by hook or by crook we get it done,” Mr Fava said.
“We get a lot of satisfaction from it. The cause is just undeniable because you’re helping kids in the shady part of their lives.”
Mr Fava said the most difficult part of the walk would be the length of it, nine days.
“You just have to front up every day and get on with it,” he said.
“The difficult thing is that it goes for nine days, not just two. That’s why (they) invented iPods.”
Last year the walkers raised a record $60,000.
