OFTEN, Wyndham’s economy is seen as one that is struggling to keep its head above water, with more and more business crying poor.
But one business owner claims that there are still plenty of opportunities.
Jenny Anthony, the owner of Sleppy’s Hoppers Crossing, was recently the recipient of a national award for making sales in excess of $1 million in the last financial year.
The award, given by Sleepy’s head office, kept Ms Anthony in the $1 Million Dollar Club, a position she has held since 2008.
In 2012 she was also given a Lifetime Award for turning over more than $5 million since opening.
Ms Anthony said that she felt the principles she attributed to her own business’ success could be applied to others within Wyndham.
“We get a significant amount of sales from customer referrals and repeat buyers,” Ms Anthony said.
“I really think that your last contact with the customer is important, because that’s how they will remember you.
“Everyone that walks in our door gets exactly the same service, whether they are buying a $199 mattress or a $4000 mattress, and I think that’s important because we want them to be our permanent customers.”
Ms Anthony said “booming estates” in Wyndham provided plenty of opportunities for business growth, but the bottom line was still very crucial.
“We try to keep our overheads down and if we see something that will allow us to keep our prices down so we can pass that on to the customer, then we take that opportunity,” she said.
“You also need to pay your bills and suppliers on time, otherwise if you are paying everything late, then that becomes your culture.”
Sleepy’s CEO Shane Flynn said the Hoppers Crossing store was very deserving of the award.
“In a market where we rely on leveraging our expertise by delivering top quality advice, Jenny and the Hoppers Crossing team model what we strive to achieve across the entire Sleepy’s network,” Mr Flynn said.
