DYLAN Morrison jetted off to the United States on a college golf scholarship less than three months ago and it hasn’t taken the talented teenager long to show the Americans just how good he is.
Last week the 19-year-old notched up the biggest win of his short college experience when he lifted the trophy at the Columbia Basin College Invitational.
Morrison shot a final round score of two under par to kick clear of his rivals by one shot. The two round event was played at the Horn Rapids and Canyon Lakes golf courses, which are both known for their challenging holes.
However, that didn’t faze Morrison who conquered all before him on the fairways and the greens.
“He is very level-headed. He knows how tough it is to make it. His coach is ecstatic,” his father Rod said.
“The college has been going since 1933 and no-one has ever won this before which is great for both of them.”
Morrison arrived at the University of Idaho at the end of August to begin his college training where he is also studying psychology, physical education and business management.
The Wyndham Vale resident was the only international player recruited to the university with the other 11 members on the team coming from within America.
From that initial team of 12, the school then picked a first team of five players who travel around and compete in major tournaments.
Morrison was selected as the number one player in the representative team.
Morrison began playing golf at the age of six at Sistems Golf in Hoppers Crossing before becoming a junior member at Werribee Park.
At the age of 12 he moved to Sanctuary Lakes where he represented the club in both senior and junior pennant as well as winning the Victorian Golf Association Geoff Ogilvy junior tournament.
With one college win under his belt already, Morrison is sure to be a name to watch out for in the coming years on the greens.
