Spend warning

THE Victorian Council of Social Service has warned of a “mounting deficit” in spending on public transport and other critical services in growth areas like Wyndham.
“There has been no new money for buses in growth suburbs of Melbourne in the last three years despite massive population growth,” VCOSS CEO Cath Smith said.
“Buses will be needed as soon as people move in.”
Ms Smith said while developers building in growth corridors will make some contribution to new infrastructure costs, the full cost of all the new schools, maternal and child health centres, hospitals, community services, and public transport will be far in excess of their contribution.
