EVERY year Remembrance Day marks a solemn and heart wrenching occasion, but this year the day had some added uniqueness.
As people stopped throughout Wyndham at 11 am on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, it was the first time ever that they also did it on the eleventh year.
The usual crowd of returned servicemen and women from the Werribee RSL Sub-Branch gathered around the Cenotaph at Station Place to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Bill Markson who regularly watches the event told Star that he hoped the tradition would continue long after he is gone.
“I’m nearly 90 now but it’s great to see lots of young people turn up every year with their grandparents,” Mr Markson said.
“I’d like to see them keep that up because even if they haven’t been touched by war like my generation has, they still have a lot to be thankful for.”
