Flood havoc

THE Maribyrnong River burst its banks over the weekend as torrential rain saw roads close and the Anglers Tavern saturated.
Heavy rain saw the Napier St underpass flood on Friday morning, causing traffic to build up as some drivers tried reversing back, crossing over the median strip and doing U turns into oncoming traffic to avoid driving through. The underpass was later closed down. Footscray SES started preparing for the worst on Friday afternoon by doorknocking around 80 homes along Chifley Drive and Anglers Way, while Anglers Tavern staff began sandbagging the pub in preparation.
The river peaked early Saturday morning, flooding the road on Chifley Drive and the beer garden and public bar of Anglers Tavern, causing about $30,000 damage.
