THE next big name in fashion could be uncovered when the biggest fashion event in the western suburbs comes to town again this year.
In its 16th year Fashion Awards Australia will be held outside of Wyndham for the first time when it is taken to Taylors Lakes.
Event organiser and founder, Heather Marcus, said the annual fashion show could be transformative for young people hoping to break into the industry.
“I have received so many letters from people who are in the fashion industry today saying that Fashion Awards Australia certainly helped them move forward,” Ms Marcus said.
“It is giving some of these young people a purpose in life and when I see letters like that, I just want to do more to help them.
“It will be absolutely life changing for some of the participants.”
Ms Marcus said that a total of $23,000, not including products, was available to winners in a range of 12 different categories.
She said the event’s sponsors had embraced a move back to focussing on high school participants.
“The youth are our generation of tomorrow and we need to support them with events like this,” she said.
“We are constantly saying that we need to make sure we have more jobs and skills available for our children in the West and this is giving them another pathway.”
Ms Marcus said she felt like the event was being “reborn” this year.
Fashion Awards Australia will be held on Friday 13 September at the Lakeside Banquet and Convention Centre in Taylors Lakes.
