A 21-YEAR-OLD St Albans student with a non verbal learning disorder is encouraging others with a disability to take advantage of a free information night in Sunshine next week.
Yarraville resident Eris O’Brien was diagnosed with the disorder when he was 16 years old.
In 2008 he applied to the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre under Category 9, Disability, Special Entry Access Programme (SEAS) hoping to gain a place at university in 2009.
He was offered a place in International Community Development at Victoria University and does cross institutional studies in Russian and culture at University of Melbourne.
He said life would have been much easier had he and his mum been able to attend information nights like the one being held at 6pm on 26 August at Club Italia in Sunshine.
People with a disability considering studying at Ballarat University, Victoria University, RMIT, Kangan Batman TAFE or Gordon TAFE are encouraged to attend.
Information will also be available from Australian Apprenticeships, Centrelink and Western Chances. To book email donna.leonard@rmit.edu. au or maria@wlcp.com.au.
He said it would have provided much needed information on the VTAC and SEAS process, scholarships and financial assistance available.
Western Local Community Partnership (WLCP) will host the information night next week which begins at 6pm.
