THE installation of a second bike storage cage at Werribee train station will meet demands for more secure bicycle parking spaces at the station.
The new Parkiteer cage will provide an additional 26 parking spaces to relieve pressure on the existing cage which was operating well above capacity.
Western Metropolitan MP Andrew Elsbury encouraged residents to get on their bikes and use the new Parkiteer facility.
“Nearly 4000 Melbourne cyclists are registered to use the Parkiteer bike cages, a sign of how popular the system has become,” Mr Elsbury said.
“The bike cage at Werribee Railway Station is one of the most popular on the network.”
He said the new bike cage would provide more secure parking spaces at the station for cyclists in Melbourne’s West.
“This will give greater capacity for cyclists in the western suburbs to help secure their bikes. Riding a bike to the station is a great way to get active while reducing congestion on local roads,” Mr Elsbury said.
There are currently 61 Parkiteer cages located at stations across the state managed by Bicycle Network Victoria.
The use of the secure Parkiteer bike cage is free after paying a $50 refundable bond for an electronic access card.
