THERE’S nothing Lisa Hammer and Andrew Dowton would rather do than dance and it’s this enthusiasm that has seen them travel across the globe to learn new skills to enhance the learning of their students.
Miss Hammer is the owner and principal instructor of TDB The Dance Company based in Altona North.
A seasoned all round dancer, Miss Hammer has trained in all aspects of performing.
“I’ve loved it ever since I was little. I love what it gives you and how you can express yourself and the relationship you make with the students.” Miss Hammer said.
Since its creation a few short years ago the dance school already has 200 students.
Mr Dowton has trained as an urban-style hip hop dancer and has quickly excelled in a short time.
He joined Lisa as the principal hip-hop instructor two years ago.
The pair recently returned from a trip to Los Angeles where they spent every day taking dance classes and being taught by top notch choreographers.
“Dance teachers need to be constantly up to date about what’s going on in techniques in styles in choreography,” Miss Hammer said.
The pair spent more than two weeks training every day and taking classes at two of the biggest dance studios where they were taught by choreographers to the stars including Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake.
“I just wanted to take that all with me and bring it back here and give it to my kids and bring them up to speed with what’s in the industry.” Miss Hammer said.
“Anyone who ever tries to perfect an art never should stop and that’s what we’re trying to do keep growing and pass it onto the kids,” Mr Dowton added.
