A WERRIBEE family is counting its lucky stars after their beloved pet was saved following a possibly fatal accident.
Molly, a four-month-old pug cross beagle, was playing in the backyard when she somehow managed to dislocate one of her legs and fracture it in two places.
The playful pup was a Christmas present from Tim to his wife Vera.
Having been out of full time work for eight months and struggling to find re-employment, Tim and his family were unable to pay the necessary vet bills, and so they were told they would either have to have Molly’s leg amputated or have her euthanized.
Tim and Vera took Molly to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in North Melbourne, but once again, could not afford any kind of treatment.
The vet at Lort Smith then called the Pet Medical Crisis Fund, a small Melbourne-based charity that helps people in Tim and Vera’s situation.
They managed to get the vet to lower their costs as much as possible and also donated $1000 to help pay for treatment.
Molly has since returned home to a barrage of hugs and kisses from Tim, Vera and their two sons Rhyne and Kaidyn.
“It was such a relief to find out she would be coming home,” Tim said.
“She’s like a family member so we really didn’t want to lose her.”
