HOPPERS Crossing Soccer Club has been granted approval for the renewal of its restricted club liquor licence.
Council’s decision, cited in last week’s council meeting, comes after 14 residents objected to the licence, citing concerns over noise and loss of car parking.
Truganina Ward councillor Kim McAliney said soccer club representatives were unaware they needed to renew their current licence, held at the K&K Slack Pavilion in Mossfiel Reserve to their new soccer club located within the Grange Community Centre.
“The club is a very busy one, catering for over 400 members,” said Cr McAliney.
“There’s never been any problems with the soccer club so there was no reason not to grant them the licence.”
Council said the new licence would authorise the supply of liquor to club members and guests of the members, but would not allow the sale of liquor for consumption off the premises.
Grange Community Centre hours were extended from 9pm to 10pm on Tuesday and Wednesday to cater for the licence.
The soccer club originally sought the licence until 11pm on these days.
“We took into consideration the residents’ and the club’s needs. That’s why Tuesdays and Wednesdays were decided on as 10pm, not 11,” Cr McAliney said.
“In the end I guess you just can’t please everyone.”
The Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club did not return Star’s calls.
