KOROROIT Creek has a new course for the future.
Councils across the West are adopting a 25 year vision for the neglected waterway, with Brimbank City Council committing to the plan last week.
The $4 million plan seeks to protect the creek’s heritage and native landscape, and develop a continuous linear park and bike trail system.
Brimbank’s section runs from Kings Park to Sunshine West.
The plan recommends:
CREATION of a continuous shared trail along the creek. This would involve closing gaps in the existing trail between Deer Park and Kings Park, and Cairnlea and Sunshine West.
UPGRADING existing parks with Brimbank along the creek, including Buckingham Reserve, Selwyn Park, Station Waters and Isabella Williams Reserve.
CONSTRUCTING three new footbridges across the Kororoit Creek in Albanvale, Ardeer and West Sunshine.
INTRODUCING planning controls to protect biodiversity.
Meanwhile, Brimbank City Council is planning a separate redevelopments of Buckingham Reserve and Lakes Reserve in Taylors Lakes.
When complete the two parks will be part of several keys parks in Brimbank designed for non-sporting recreation.
The park’s master plan is expected to include new picnic facilities, walking tracks, shelters, public art, a large playground, a toilet and car parking.
Residents can take part in upcoming community design sessions at Buckingham Reserve on 3 September between 12pm and 3pm, and Lakes Reserve on 9 September between 12pm and 3pm.
