THE Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre has won the inaugural YMCA of the Year award among 149 branches in the state.
YMCA Victoria chief executive Peter Burns said the Ballan Rd centre had demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and leadership across its operations and programs.
Centre manager Shane Dunne acknowledged the staff’s outstanding work in the past 12 months.
“Given that other YMCA sites have much larger and more modern sites, a greater choice of programs and a much greater turnover, the residents of Werribee should be extremely proud of the achievements of their community facility,” he said.
The YMCA manages the centre on behalf of Wyndham Sports Centre Limited, a company formed by Wyndham City Council and the Werribee Basketball Association.
Wyndham mayor Shane Bourke said the centre had been consistently improving its performance since its contract renewal in January 2004.
