Heavy going in Hatch Shield

SUNSHINE’S Hatch Shield team has all but lost hope of playing in the final after an abysmal opening week in the Under 15 competition left the squad at the bottom of the western division ladder.
Sunshine has yet to secure a win this week, suffering four losses in four days. A bye in upcoming round six means the team has only two more chances to break its losing streak.
The team was steamrolled in its round one match against Broadmeadows, batting a paltry 37 to Broadmeadows 171, but fared considerably better against Altona the next day, with good batting by Dylan Thompson (42) and Jackson Marr (31) helping the side to 7/140.
In round three, Sunshine went down to Yarraville by eight runs.
The final game of the week saw Sunshine go down to Williamstown in another low-scoring feat.
Broadmeadows is leading the west group with three wins, but a bye in round five leaves the window open for Altona, Williamstown, Melton and Yarraville to steal top spot.
Play resumed yesterday (Monday) when Sunshine plays Werribee at Dempster Park.
