THE long search for a new Brimbank chief executive officer is over, with councillors last week finally selecting a replacement for outgoing CEO Marilyn Duncan.
Star believes the position will be offered to a senior manager from one of Brimbank’s neighbouring western region councils.
The council is expected to formally appoint the new CEO at a closed session of the next council meeting, which is scheduled for 10 April.
Ms Duncan announced late last year that she was stepping down and has refused to discuss her reasons.
The council went into a closed session at the end of last Tuesday’s fiery council meeting over a “personnel matter”.
Star believes that was for councillors to choose between two candidates for the CEO role.
Four councillors walked out of the meeting before the closed session to decide on the new CEO began, with Crs Natalie Suleyman, Marilyn Zukalski, Ken Capar and Anthony Abate choosing to sit out the meeting.
Cr Suleyman said that after last Tuesday’s rowdy three-and-a-half-hour meeting at Errington Community Centre she no longer believed council meetings were transparent and open.
She said that was why she chose not to attend the closed session.
“It’s the whole meeting process … quite frankly the meeting procedures are not observed,” Cr Suleyman said late last week.
The council last week refused to make a comment on the search for its new CEO.
