Premiership for junior team

DEER Park Tennis Club has added another pennant to the wall after a fine season in the North Suburban Junior Tennis Association.
Under new coach Courtney Kelly, the club picked up a premiership in the B Grade Boys section after a heart-stopping finals campaign.
Two of Deer Park’s six teams were deep in finals action, with the D Grade 4 team knocked out in a tense preliminary final.
The five members of the B Grade team scraped into the top four in the last round of the home and away season, defeating Oak Park by the barest of margins.
From there, the team snuck over the line against third-placed Hadfield by nine games in the semi-final before knocking over minor premier Tullamarine by three games.
With momentum and confidence on its side, the team Jeremy Beale, Kristian Dabrowski, Ben Sliwinski, Tony Vo and Daniel Hotriem continued its winning run with a solid five-game win against Oak Park, ending a fairytale late-season flourish.
After an encouraging season, the newly formed D Grade combination lost to Greenvale by just three games in an exciting preliminary final.
The side of Timothy Knight, Enzo Rivera, Marcus Hueso, Liam Azzopardi, Samantha-Anne Knight, Tina Falzon, Tamara Tautalaaso, Krissy Tang and Melissa Esguerra finished second after the regular season and will again team up for a shot at the premiership in 2006.
Anyone looking at playing tennis this season is encouraged to contact the club in Station Road, Deer Park, on 9363 5860 or come down on any Tuesday or Sunday evening from 7.30pm for the club’s social tennis night.
