MELTON Shire Council is handing out free information booklets to new mums when they visit the council’s maternal and child health service.
The booklet Congratulations On the Birth of Your Baby was initiated by the maternal and child health nurses based on their experience on what new parents are asking for.
The booklet contains information on how to use the maternal and child health service, other services available in Melton Shire, taking care of yourself, feeding your baby, baby’s health, crying babies and gives useful contact numbers.
Mayor Justin Mammarella said the council was proud to deliver this extra service to new parents.
“Melton Shire is the fastest growing municipality in Victoria and many people come to Melton to start a family,” Cr Mammarella said.
“We are a vibrant, proud, growing and healthy community and council aims to meet the strong demand for services,” he said.
There were 1526 babies born in Melton Shire in 2006 and from 1 January to the end of June 2007 there were 850 birth notices received in Melton Shire with an additional 101 so far in July.
“Melton Shire will see an increase in maternal and child health nurses by September 2007,” Cr Mammarella said.
A Best Start booklet, with information on services available for families with young children, will also be available towards the end of the year.
