WERRIBEE suffered a heart-breaking three-point loss to the Northern Bullants on Saturday at the Preston City Oval.
The Tigers trailed at every change but had their chances to steal victory in the final term, but remain winless after four rounds.
Josh Houlihan, Jason Saddington and Digby Morrell did the damage for the Bullants with the latter booting four goals.
“We were down early and squandered the breeze in the first quarter, which I guess hurt us,” Werribee general manager Mark Penaluna said.
“I think we were three goals to zip down kicking with the aid of the wind, so it wasn’t the best start.
“But the boys fought back really well and really had a dip, and unfortunately we just couldn’t get over the line.
“We have tried hard in two games this year were we probably could have won.
“But that’s the way it goes.”
Michael Rockefeller, youngster Jarrod Harbrow and and Robert Castello were sensational for Werribee.
Harbrow will be pushing for selection with Western Bulldogs this week following his performance.
The Shepparton teenager was drafted by the Bulldogs last year from the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup.
Cameron Faulkner and Jacob Furfaro also tried hard for the Tigers.
The team faces the daunting task of reviving its season and is one of only two clubs without a win after four games.
It won’t get any easier this week, with Werribee facing sixth-placed North Ballarat.
“We have some work to do to turn it around now,” Penaluna said.
“In the last quarter we had plenty of chances to win but that is gone now and we move on.
“Decision-making let us down again and is something we need to get better at.
“We just have to work hard and the reserves are doing well, so a few guys will be knocking on the door for senior selection.”
