WESTERN Community Organisation groups believe “enough is enough” and are holding a Neglect of the West Rally this Sunday to voice their concerns just in time before the state election.
Groups from different aspects of the community will gather at the Whitten Oval on Sunday at 1pm to send a clear message to all political parties and candidates that people of the West are tired of the neglect during the last decade, event coordinator and Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association President Darlene Reilly said.
“We want to show all parties how we feel out here and ask them to start addressing some of the inequities we continue to experience west of Maribyrnong,” Ms Reilly said.
SunRAA member John Hedditch said issues such as public transport, education, health, gambling, planning and urban design would be addressed at the rally.
“It seems that everyone is acknowledging the problem but no one is addressing it,” Mr Hedditch said.
“We’re unprovided in terms of resources and services. Why is this pattern continuing decade after decade?” he added.
Maribyrnong City Councillor Janis Rossiter, who is also going to attend the rally, told Star residents needed to be “reminded of what hasn’t been getting done for the last seven years”.
“We all voted faithfully Labor, thinking that we were all going to be saved and nothing has changed at all. If anything it has gone backwards,” Ms Rossiter said.
“The only way that they’re going to get anything for the West is to start changing the voting patterns because obviously we’re being ignored,” she added.
