Locals set to lobby MPs

By Belinda Nolan
PUBLIC transport issuesin Maribyrnong are set to be taken on, one MP at a time.
Commuters will have the chance to meet their local MPs during a series of community consultations next month.
Public transport advocacy group pt4me2 is organising the conferences after an internet campaign that saw about 1000 Western suburbs residents sign a petition for better public transport.
Pt4me2 spokesman Greg Day said there had been an enormous amount of interest for the campaign from Maribyrnong residents.
Mr Day said many people who signed the petition had expressed an interest in meeting local MPs to discuss public transport issues.
Mr Day said he was still in the process of organising the meetings but a number of Western suburbs MPs had already signed on, including Tarneit MP Tim Pallas, the State Roads and Ports Minister, and more were expected to join.
Each meeting would be attended by the relevant MP, a representative from the council and a small group of local residents.
