STUDENTS of all ages including Znab, above, got a hands-on chance to try a trade recently at a careers expo at Footscray’s Phoenix Youth Centre. The Try a Trade Expo allowed high school and tertiary students to try bricklaying, tiling, fashion, fitness, life-guarding, printing and graphics, the fire brigade and other trades to help them make informed choices about their future. Students also had the chance to speak with local tradespeople, apprentices and TAFE teachers. “Maybe you’re not aspiring to go to university, but this shows you what kind of careers you can get with just a TAFE-level certificate and it’s a good starting point into a real career,” organiser Sharns Cropley said. “There are other options.” 53028 Picture: KRISTIAN SCOTT
