HOPPERS Crossing will soon be home to a new “iconic” community precinct.
The 80 Derrimut Rd Site Optimisation Project, which will revamp the current Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre site, was given the green light at last week’s council meeting.
The council awarded the $750,000 contract for architectural services to Suters Architects Pty Ltd to commence concept planning to optimise use of the current site while providing residents with modern new facilities.
Once completed, the site will include a new state-of-the-art Community Learning Centre, incorporating the relocated Heath Roads Library, an expanded Aquatic and Leisure Centre, a redeveloped Events Centre, cafe and outdoor meeting spaces and improved traffic flow and more car parks.
Wyndham Mayor, Cr Heather Marcus said the next phase of the project will determine the scope of the works to optimise the precinct.
“In the coming months, Wyndham City will work with the community, project managers and Suters Architects to determine the scope of works for the site,” she said.
“This is a complex project incorporating the upgrading of existing buildings with the construction of new facilities, so a great deal of pre-planning will be undertaken to scope each stage of the project and ensure its efficient delivery.”
Cr Marcus said the City is expected to be home to about 180,000 more residents within the next 20 years, so the provision of major new facilities at key locations is a must.
“This is an extremely exciting project for Wyndham City and we look forward to working with the city to develop this iconic precinct,” she said.
