Shopfront makeover

FOOTSCRAY shopfronts have received discounted makeovers thanks to a joint Maribyrnong City Council and State Government initiative.
The council partnered with the State Government and consultants VillageWell earlier this year to roll out the targeted Shopfront Improvement Scheme in Nicholson and Leeds streets.
The scheme matched funds spent by property owners and traders committed to improving their shopfronts.
Works included painting, tiling, decorative installations and business naming signs.
The council and State Government officers jointly assessed five applications received as part of the program.
Nicholson Street business Café Bulldog in Nicholson Street was one of the businesses that took up the offer and completed several upgrades to their shopfront, including tidying and painting their facade, new signage and graphics.
“This particular retailer provides a great example of how this program works,” Mayor Sel Sanli said.
“The difference to their premises is noticeable and almost half the work that was completed was funded by the council and the State Government as part of the program.”
The next phase of the Shopfront Improvement Scheme will focus on shopfront improvements in Leeds Street (between Irving and Hopkins streets).
