THE Point Cook Relay for Life wrapped up with 30 teams taking part in the overnight event to raise a target amount of $40,000 for cancer research.
One of the teams was Werribee resident Kate Auhl’s team, Kruizin with Kate.
Ms Auhl, a breast cancer survivor, took part in the event with her family and friends who supported her with her cancer journey.
“As a breast cancer survivor, I know what it’s like to face a cancer diagnosis, have surgery and to embark on the cycle of cancer treatments,” Ms Auhl said.
“We wanted to raise a minimum of $5000 to apply for a medical research grant,” she said.
“If we reach $5000 or above we can have a medical research grant in our name.”
The Point Cook Relay for Life was an 18-hour overnight event which provided an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost, and fight back against the disease by helping raise important funds.
“It is wonderful to see family, friends and the community come together and support Relay for Life as cancer affects all of us one way or another. This is why we celebrate, remember and fight back,” Ms Auhl said.
The event kicked-off with an opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon and was full of lots of activities and entertainment to keep everyone busy, especially the overnight campers, before concluding on Sunday morning.
