A Hoppers Crossing resident has opened her door and her heart to many young people in need, but she is thanking the residents of Hoppers Crossing for their kindness.
Rena Leigh has helped many young people in need by supporting them and providing them with a home to live.
“I believe in an alternative lifestyle and through that lifestyle sometimes people come into my life,” Ms Leigh said.
“Sometimes those people need help and they’re looking to make changes in their life,” she said.
From the goodness of her heart Ms Leigh works closely with the young adults to help them overcome their struggles and isolation.
Ms Leigh said people come to from many different backgrounds but mostly from heavily victimised or abused backgrounds.
“At the moment I have four young people living in my house,” she said.
“It’s a group that we’re growing. It teaches them how to support each other and how to work as a unit.
“All the things they need to reach for their full potential in life.”
Ms Leigh said she especially wanted to thank the community for echoing her teachings by being so friendly and welcoming.
“Part of my work with them is to help them see the world differently,” Ms Leigh said.
“To see the warmth and care and kindness that surrounds them every day but that they are often blinded to by the trauma of their early years.”
“Every time you smile at them, every time you reach out a hand, give a bit of kind advice, stop and have a quiet chat, you reinforce the messages I strive to teach.”
“Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for being the kind, generous spirited community you continually show us you are. I am very proud to be part of such a beautiful community.”
