WYNDHAM residents with a green thumb are raising garden beds in a bid to lift community spirit.
Members of the Wyndham Rotary Club recently held a working bee at Werribee’s first community garden, building a large raised garden bed for use by the community.
Dr Bob Fairclough, president of the Werribee Environmental Community Park (WECP) committee, said the contribution from the members of Wyndham Rotary would enable the WECP committee to allocate additional garden plots to a number of organisations and families in Wyndham.
“The existing garden plots have been utilized by a number of community organisations including the Werribee Community and Education Centre, AMES, Catholic Care and several family groups to produce fresh vegetables and edible plants at minimal cost to their members,” Dr Fairclough said.
John Campbell, the Community Director of the Wyndham Rotary Club said members were delighted to be given the opportunity to assist in the building of additional raised garden beds.
He said the beds would provide deserving residents in Wyndham with the opportunity to grow fresh vegetables and other edible plants at the garden.
Dr Fairclough said that as a result of the completion of additional raised beds the WECP committee is now in a position to allocate additional garden plots to any interested community groups or families in Wyndham.
