Harbour town begins

IT has taken 25 years from concept to reality, with construction of Wyndham Harbour finally beginning last week.
Wyndham Mayor Heather Marcus turned the first sod of earth at the development, launching the construction of the first apartments in the area.
The $52 million sold-out Marina Quays development will include 104 apartments, 1000 square metres of retail space, and 2000 square metres of open public spaces including a central piazza.
Cr Marcus said the launch last Tuesday marked a significant milestone for the project, which will see the development of a key precinct within Wyndham.
“The Werribee South foreshore is an important asset for Wyndham and we continue to work closely with the developer to ensure the best outcomes for our community,” Cr Marcus said.
“When it was first thought about it was something like 25 years ago so it’s absolutely fantastic to be here for the sod turning today.
“What I want to see though is a great big convention centre for all the resident to go to.”
Wyndham Harbour Development Director Sonya Miller announced that Olympic gold medallist sailor, Mat Belcher, would be the new ambassador for the development.
“To get a gold medal in London was a 12 year journey for me that involved a lot of emotional, financial and technical support, and I think the journey of this development has been even longer than that,” Mr Belcher said.
“With sails in the logo and conditions like this it’s a great fit and I’m looking forward to getting our boat and maybe holding a few sailing lessons for everyone out here.”
