Red Devils close to second

NORTH Footscray strengthened its position in the Western Region Football League (WRFL) Division Two top five with a 15-point triumph over Sunshine Heights.
The Red Devils have now moved equal on points the second-placed Heights following the 10.11.71 to 7.14.56 win.
They survived a late surge from Sunshine Heights to record the important win with a stack of contributors putting their hands up.
Adam Pacanows, Paul Maczohan, Justin Lucas and Dwayne Brown were the catalysts of the win while Scott Eldridge booted three goals.
North Footscray led narrowly at both the quarter and half-time breaks but put the foot on the pedal in the third term.
With Pacanows and Lucas prominent, the Red Devils booted 5.4 to 1.2 for the term to open up a commanding 31-point lead heading into the last quarter.
Sunshine Heights responded and gathered some momentum with goals, but couldn’t limit the midfield impact of the Red Devils to cut the margin enough.
Deer Park moved into the top five with a seven-point win over Brunswick Power on Saturday.
Deer Park got more of a fight than expected with the match neck-and-neck for the majority.
Brunswick Power led by eight points at half-time but couldn’t sustain their effort enough in the final term.
Gladstone Park posted only its second win of the season with a thrilling two-point victory over Wyndhamvale Falcons. They fell 17 points behind at three-quarter time but finished strongly to snatch the points.
Braybrook thumped the Western Magpies by 94 points, while Albanvale overpowered North Sunshine by 27 points.
And West Footscray recorded a convincing 80-point win over Coburg Districts.
