DRIVERS in Melbourne’s West could be using the Deer Park Bypass by the middle of next year as work on it is six months ahead of schedule.
Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas foreshadowed the early completion of the $331 million project to ease traffic congestion while inspecting progress at the new Mt Derrimut Rd overpass last week.
“Good progress is being made on the bypass, which, when opened next year, will provide a freeway-standard link from the Ring Rd at Sunshine West to the Western Freeway at Caroline Springs,” Mr Pallas said.
“Work is running ahead of schedule, with eight of the 11 bridges along the 9.3 kilometre route under construction, and 70 per cent of the earthworks completed.
“If progress continues at this rate, we could see the project finish early, with drivers able to use the bypass by the middle of next year.”
The Mt Derrimut Rd overpass represents an important link between communities in Deer Park and Derrimut and the industrial estates and developing residential suburbs to the south.
“This new bridge takes Mt Derrimut Rd over the bypass, providing a more direct and safer north-south route,” Mr Pallas said.
