ALBANVALE suffered its first Western Region Football League Division Two loss of the season, going down by 58 points to a slick Coburg Districts side.
In a surprise result, ladder leader Albanvale could only manage a paltry 2.5.17 against the eighth-placed Districts, all the more surprising as in its last three games Albanvale has kicked a massive 439 points.
The Districts side kicked four goals in the first term to open a 21-point lead at quarter-time, and were not challenged from then on.
Albanvale club administrator John Purches said the team didn’t adjust to the conditions.
“We tried to play dry weather football in wet weather,” he said.
In the battle of the two winless teams, Wyndhamvale got up over North Sunshine.
Five goals was all it took the Falcons to get over the line in a low-scoring affair, with Wayne Care and Ange Messina slotting two each.
North Sunshine struggled in the poor conditions and was let down by inaccurate kicking, managing 2.12 to the Falcons’ 5.8.
At Deer Park, North Footscray belted the home team by 103 points to move into second position on the ladder.
Andrew Montelone kicked six goals for North, with Nicholas Wilson and Cory Lucas adding three each.
Sunshine Heights moved to the top of the ladder with an impressive 41-point victory over Parkside.
Accuracy was the difference, with Sunshine kicking 19.7 to Parkside’s 11.14.
A six-goal first term from Sunshine set the pace for the day, with Parkside playing catch-up football all afternoon.
And Braybrook moved into fifth with a 32-point win over the Western Magpies.
