AN EARLY influx of nominations for the 2008 Greater Western Business Excellence Awards has highlighted the importance of business in the West.
The Greater Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GWCCI) is gearing up for the annual event, which is now in its sixth year.
Grant Harrison, dealer principal at Melton Toyota and the winner of last year’s best businessperson award, encouraged other businesses to be involved in the awards.
“Winning back-to-back GWCCI Business Excellence Awards has been a proud achievement for the team at Melton Toyota,” Mr Harrison said.
“The awards have raised our profile in the Western community and demonstrate our serious commitment to exceptional customer service and best business practice.
“The networking opportunities within the GWCCI organisation are an obvious advantage and the process of nomination and judging is a beneficial exercise in business self-analysis.
“The genuine excitement and pride in our staff in regards to winning is clearly evident, after all, they make this business the success that it is.”
Award categories include cafe or restaurant, building and construction, retail, franchise, not for profit, export achievement, agriculture, manufacturing, as well as categories for small, medium and micro/home office businesses.
There will also be an award for the young achiever of the year, which Chrystal Hili from the Melbourne Dance Exchange took home last year.
New categories for this year are the business services, personal services and transport categories,
The presentation will be held at The Atrium in Flemington on 15 October.
