WERRIBEE Police are combining forces with government and commercial heavyweights to stamp out crime crippling the municipality.
A new program called Eyes on the Street will be launched tonight at Wyndham City Council that is set to change the policing landscape.
Select agencies are being trained to identify suspicious people, vehicles or criminal activity.
Community liaison officer Tracey Ogle said information received could provide the missing link to unsolved crimes.
The chosen group has access to a computer system where they can alert police.
A logo will also be splashed across the city to deter troublemakers, due to the risk of being seen and reported.
The Werribee Plaza, Point Cook Town Centre and Connex are all on board.
Connex will have staff planted at the Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Laverton train stations.
Senior Constable Ogle said the reporting system was more reliable than Crime Stoppers as it used a specific style that met police needs.
“It would be good to have another tool to combat anti-social behaviour,” she said.
“We have problems with property damage and graffiti and we want to target these areas.”
The crime prevention strategy was pioneered in Western Australia five years ago.
