HOPPERS Crossing resident Laura Giles is preparing herself to take on the world.
The 21-year-old has been selected to represent Australia at the Under 21 Indoor Netball World Cup.
Giles, who has been a frequent Victorian representative throughout her career, was selected following an outstanding National Championships.
“I was playing for Victoria in a nationals tournament and I was selected from there,” she explained.
“The announcement was made at a presentation night. We had all the teams from all the states there and they just read it out at the night.
“It was pretty crazy and I was absolutely shocked. I was just thinking, really, me?
“This is my first Australian team. Last year, when I played as well, I was selected but I was only an emergency player then.”
The World Cup will begin in late May and goes for three weeks.
Giles, who plays goal keeper, will travel with her Australian team-mates to South Africa for the tournament and take on the might of the host nation as well as New Zealand and England.
“I guess it is very much a learning experience for my self and I am just hoping to be able to play as good as I can,” she said.
“It’s still a bit surreal. I don’t think it will hit home until I actually go to play.”
