GELLIBRAND inflicted Deer Park Ardeer’s second outright defeat of the Williamstown and District Cricket Association season with a polished performance in round four.
After wrapping up first innings points on the opening day last week, Gellibrand picked up where it left off by dominating the contest at Digman Reserve.
Deer Park Ardeer made 123 runs in the first innings, led by top-scorer Mark Suvada’s 30, before half centuries from Gellibrand top order custodians David Croft and Tony Briski led the team to first innings points.
Gellibrand declared on its overnight score of 3/186 in the hunt for maximum points, and it looked on track when Deer Park Ardeer’s second innings ended worse than its first.
Paul Tawaf batted valiantly for his 39 runs, but his team was skittled for 113 and led by only 50 runs.
Gellibrand easily picked up the runs without losing a wicket.
In other games, Newport Rams batted bravely to deny Grand United an outright win at KC White Reserve.
The Rams were dismissed for a paltry 79 runs last week, which United picked up with eight wickets in hand, before declaring early on Saturday at 5/185, a lead of 106.
But stoic batting from Shekar Kalyan (45) and Peter Berry (43) saved the Rams from an outright loss when it finished the match at 5/120.
Grand United’s Clinton Chugg took three wickets in the second innings to add to his six-wicket haul last week.
Competition leader Laverton scored an outright win over Newport-Dignam, Wyndhamvale fell 49 runs short against Hoppers Club and a brilliant 152 from Glen Robson helped Williamstown Imperials (430) crush Williamstown Colts (175).
