Hoppers wins big

HOPPERS Crossing made light work of first round Western Region Football League Competition Division One winner Yarraville-Seddon on Saturday with an intimidating 83-point triumph.
The Eagles were brilliant in their season opener with a commanding victory, but were brought back to earth with a thud.
Hoppers Crossing had opened up a match-winning 53-point lead at half-time, which they were in no danger of surrendering.
Koutzamanis was a star booting five goals as his team won 17.6.108 to 4.1.25.
“They played really well and in the conditions the side did very well,” Hoppers Crossing president Greg King said.
“We’re rebuilding the side again to a certain extent and hopefully we’ll be around the mark again.
“Some of the young guys can continue to develop and they played well on Saturday.
“Considering the conditions as well it was a pretty good effort to win by that much. Yarraville-Seddon will have some competitive games this year, I think.”
Hoppers Crossing faces Albion at home next week.
Altona, meanwhile, was smashed by a supercharged Sunshine on Saturday by 71 points.
The Kangaroos bounced back from their disappointing round one loss to St Albans to record the commanding win.
They set it up the win with a blistering first half despite the greasy conditions, leading by 47 points at the main change.
Their midfield was completely dominant while Jonathon Frost created havoc across half forward finishing with five goals.
Sunshine hit the ground running booting 5.4 to 2.3 in the opening quarter and extended the lead with a huge second quarter and through the strong efforts of Adam Bright and Rick Martin in defence.
Port Melbourne Colts were a class above, posting a 12-goal win over Albion.
The Colts players stormed home and had their radars correctly adjusted booting an accurate 19.6.120 to 6.12.48 for the day.
Spotswood kept Glen Orden goalless on their way to a 176-point victory while Parkside was outclassed by St Albans to the tune of 76 points.
