EVEN in its interim state, the western region’s peak body, Leadwest, has begun work tackling transport issues in the West.
Melton Shire councillor Chris Papas gave the update at the Melton Shire’s council meeting last Monday.
“The shortlisting process for a CEO is just about complete … and the final four board members will soon be appointed … after a special general meeting as per our constitution,” he said. “So we’re extremely hopeful that by December, Leadwest will be well and truly up and running and the interim board can actually become the formal board.
“Having said that, it doesn’t mean that Leadwest hasn’t been looking at issues,” Cr Papas said. “Leadwest has been talking to lead agencies within the western region.
“We received a recourse as recently as the week before, pertaining to a draft discussion paper of the western region’s transport needs. It essentially puts together a series of action plans as to a way forward.”
