WEST Footscray continued its mid-season dominance in the Western Region Football League’s Division Two competition, accounting for archrival North Footscray at Shorten Reserve last weekend.
Despite a promising start from North Footscray, the game billed the match of the round never quite lived up to its expectations as the visitors scored only three goals after quarter-time.
The Roosters extended their winning streak to six matches and consolidated third spot, while the Demons’ inconsistent mid-season patch continued.
North Footscray’s defence could not stop imposing forward Steven Lane, who booted seven goals, as the home side went on a rampage in the final term.
The Demons will be hoping for a more competitive showing against Albanvale next match, after Albanvale thrashed Central Altona by 79 points at Robert Bruce Reserve.
Albanvale’s forwards were well supplied by its core group of midfielders, especially in a second term that produced 15 shots on goal, against the undermanned Tigers, who struggled after quarter time.
In other Division Two action, Glenorden continued its unbeaten season, doubling the Wydhamvale Falcons’ score, while the Western Magpies lost to North Sunshine and Deer Park thrashed Brunswick Power by almost 200 points.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Heights’ win over Coburg Districts ended a two-game losing streak, and Braybrook’s finals hopes were boosted with a 31-point win over Gladstone Park at Tullamarine Park.
