TITANS continued their steady march up the A Grade ladder after a third successive win in Werribee Table Tennis competition.
After a slow start to the season, Titans have their sights firmly fixed on the finals as they dispatched Bushrangers 6-3. Gerald Gallina set the team on its winning way, claiming his three singles matches as Titans cruised to victory.
Sunshine consolidated its hold on top place, sweeping past Wyndham Vale 6-3. Alan Thomson nailed three for Wyndham Vale, but Sunshine could not be stopped.
Team Wong bounced back to win after the bye, edging past Panthers 5-4. No player dominated the match, but Team Wong claimed the vital fifth win in a seesawing encounter.
Sonics produced a solid team effort to slip past Vikings 5-4 in the last rubber of the match. Marinko Marcin grabbed three for Vikings, but Sonics would not be denied as Brett Vines seized the final rubber in five tough games.
Sunshine still holds first place on the ladder while Sonics, Bushrangers and Wyndham Vale are in hot pursuit. Titans are knocking on the door in fifth, with Team Wong, Vikings, Panthers and Toucans completing the ladder.
In B Grade Section 1, leaders Crocops edged past Boomers 5-4 in the last rubber of the night. Zelko Silic was outstanding for Crocops, nailing his three singles matches to anchor the win.
Tornadoes powered past Warriors 6-3 to grab second spot. Christian Hocking showed a pleasing return to form as he ably supported Tornadoes captain Maria Balint, with each claiming three wins.
Trojans bounced back from a disappointing round six loss and swept past Fireballs 6-3.Darren Grey anchored Trojans with three singles victories as the team seized its chance to slip into the four. Crocops head then ladder, followed by Tornadoes, Trojans, Fireballs, Warriors and Boomers.
In B Grade Section 2, Cannons continued their winning way dispatching Sharks 5-0, with Richard Lilly and David Watt sweeping through both their singles matches.
The Werribee Table Tennis association congratulated A Grade stalwart Wally Anderson, who has been chosen to carry the Queen’s Commonwealth Games baton on its journey through Victoria.
Nominated for the honour by Werribee Little Athletics, it’s a fitting reward for Anderson’s hours of dedication to sport in the area, the association said.
