Booze breaches fall

VICTORIA’S liquor licensing inspectors have found 110 non-complaint alcohol venues in Wyndham during the past 18 months.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice’s Compliance Directorate found 84 venues in the area during last year.
“In the majority of cases, we found licensees to be not displaying required notices, licences or permits, or could not produce a copy of the plan upon request,” she said.
“In 2010, 76 voluntary compliance letters were sent and eight infringements issued to licensees in the City of Wyndham.”
This year, the directorate has detected another 26 non-compliant venues and issued six infringements within the municipality.
“In Wyndham, the number of venues found to be non-compliant is dropping and when licensees are made aware of issues in their venues they are working hard to correct them,” the spokeswoman said.
“It is important for licensees to keep up to date with new legislation and obligations to ensure compliance.
“Often offences are a result of licensees simply not being aware of what their business can and cannot do under their licence conditions.”
Wyndham’s Police Inspector Bill Weatherly said most of Wyndham’s liquor outlets obeyed the law and did not cause any trouble.
“As the Licensing Inspector for the Wyndham Police Service Area, I am please to say that local police have very few issues with license premises,” he said.
