KEILOR Park’s Melanie Camilleri has again proven herself as the Victorian Women’s Premier League’s most potent markswoman of 2006.
Camilleri, who was a vital part of Keilor’s path to the finals, was officially crowned golden boot for the competition at the Football Federation Victoria’s presentation night last week.
In a season in which Keilor Park produced 71 goals, Camilleri was responsible for 31 from 19 games.
She finished the year six goals clear of Heidelberg’s Sarah Groenewald on 25.
Team-mate Kylie Nicolaci also finished in the top six scorers in the Premier League with 16 goals for the season.
Keilor Park’s campaign unfortunately ended in the elimination final after a late-season surge saw it slip into fifth on the ladder.
The club had further reason to celebrate at the presentation when Enza Barilla was named 2006 best junior girl.
In the men’s gold medal count, Sunshine skipper Manny Muscat completed a fine season, finishing second to Altona’s Sash Becvinovski.
Muscat polled an impressive 24 votes in a relegated team, finishing three votes behind Becvinovski, the league’s leading goalscorer.
The Georgies had two players at the top of the leaderboard, with Colin Azzopardi finishing 10th on 18 votes.
Green Gully midfielder and New Zealand international Jeffrey Fleming finished in a tie for third on 23 votes, despite missing several matches while on duty with the national team.
