THE Wyndham Field of Women Live held yesterday (Monday) promoted Australia’s Breast Cancer Day and raised awareness of the disease.
Lalor MP and deputy Opposition leader Julia Gillard attended the event as an ambassador for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
Ms Gillard was one of 13,000 women wearing pink ponchos who formed the shape of a woman at Sydney’s Telstra Stadium before an AFL match in August to represent the number of Australians diagnosed with breast cancer in the past year.
“The event is a great opportunity to bring our community together to raise awareness about the impact of this deadly disease and much-needed funds for the Breast Cancer Network Australia,” Ms Gillard said.
Many of the participants had family members or friends who had suffered breast cancer.
Hoppers Crossing cancer survivor Jillian Mitchell planned the Wyndham event.
Ms Gillard commended her for her dedication and strength in organising the event.
Every day 36 women in Australia will be told they have breast cancer and seven will lose their lives to the disease.
BCNA works to ensure women diagnosed with breast cancer, and their families, get the best information, treatment, care and support possible – no matter who they are or where they live.
