TWO talented musicians from MacKillop College have been chosen to showcase their skills at a concert alongside Orchestra Victoria professionals.
Year 11 students Judy Ferguson and Paris Landolina will take part in the Regional Talent of the Future showcase concert – a grand finale of Orchestra Victoria’s program On the mOVe.
As part of the educational program 14 Orchestra Victoria musicians visited schools across the state and held two-day workshop designed to teach, inspire and engage budding musicians.
At the end of the workshops Orchestra Victoria handpicked 82 outstanding student musicians to perform alongside them at Melbourne’s premier concert venue Hamer Hall.
For Miss Ferguson the event could be a life changing experience.
The passionate musician said music is such a big part of her life that she practically lives and breaths it.
“I spend pretty much most of my day doing music so it keeps me occupied,” Miss Ferguson said.
After picking up a clarinet in Year 7 she was so determined that she started learning a new instrument every year.
“It’s my passion, when I play I don’t think about anything else I’m in my own little world and can escape from everything else.”
She can now play 10 instruments in the woodwind family.
Miss Ferguson said she was inspired to learn the instruments so she can work in an orchestra pit which requires the ability to switch between instruments.
But she said she will be happy with any job so long as it’s musically related.
Miss Ferguson said she’s excited about the upcoming performance.
“We’ve got our music and its exciting learning it all.”
Miss Landolina, who has played the violin since she was 10, said she’s excited to perform alongside her mentors from Orchestra Victoria.
“I’m most looking forward to learning new things and having the opportunity to play at a great venue with great people,” Miss Landolina said.
The Orchestra Victoria grand finale concert will take place on 1 December.
